My friend Charlotte makes wonderful pictures. And recently she made one for Sleeping States.

50 of these have been screen printed and are available with orders of the new album from Pure Groove. Which you can do here.

Also I’ll (with the band) be doing an instore at Pure Groove in North London on Friday 28th August at 6pm.

Hi!

Here is the new video for ‘Gardens of the South’, which is taken from the new album In the Gardens of the North (mmm hmm there’s a theme there):

The video is directed by the wonderful Alex Smith, and features Sleeping States members past, present (and future?). Special thanks also goes to Astrid Goldsmith for her handmade tinsel suit. Seriously amazing.

And yes, before you ask, the dance does come from this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_0CSs7_6jHs&feature=related

On the 1st September, Sleeping States will be playing a free show at the Bath House in London. It’s a rather intimate venue so if you want to come, email me at sleepingstates@gmail.com and I’ll put you on the list. First come, first serve type thing.

This show will be part of a UK tour, and the other tour dates will be announced shortly.
Ok we’re all done on the show above. Full up and stuff. But yes, more shows will posted shortly so… watch this space.

A new song from the forthcoming album went up on the Sleeping States myspace today. It’s called ‘Gardens of the South’ and will also be released on a limited edition cassette in July. The cassette tracklisting is:

Side A:
Gardens of South
Final Island

Side B:
Early Morning in Feltham

You can listen to Gardens of the South here.

Last week we made a video for it. Should be finished soon. Will let you know… x

Here is the front cover of the new album:

Thank you Charlie Woolley.

The album is titled In the Gardens of the North. It will be with you on August 17th. Also there is a cassette single coming. With birds. In other news it was my birthday yesterday. Happy birthday to me.

Album is finito, handed in, done. Like it, a pastoral sort of thing. Now here come the ideas, the visuals, the warm you-know-whats. There’s talk of a cassette, which is exciting. See you in the summer. Unless you live in Manchester/Salford, in which case, see you on Sunday.

Here are some memories of my childhood

I got this in the post today:

Lifted Brow

Lifted Brow

It’s the fourth issue of the Australian creative journal, The Lifted Brown, and includes submissions from a ton of musicians, comic artists and writers, including Sleeping States (hello free copy)… I haven’t had a chance to fully immerse myself in it, but from first skims it looks… amazing. 266 pages and 2 CDs of comics, short stories, essays and songs based on an old false bookcase. There are copies (I think) still available from the Lifted Brow website, so go get one. And stuff.

The view from where we play. This is where we play.

Did a song. Went well. Watched a tree fall over. Didn’t hit my car. Successful day.

I start recording tomorrow. I started two days ago, but it was a practice. Although I like the practice so I’m keeping it. Album album album.
I found this sticker on the mixer I borrowed:

Pitch the Baby, Wax & Wane, Aloysius

Mixing instructions for three Cocteau Twins songs. Three really good Cocteau Twins songs. On my (borrowed) mixer. The real deal. My heart skipped a beat.

I have a good feeling about this.
